Pilgrimage

Written May 11, 2024 By Peter Nathaniel Lee

When you stare towards the sun, the world becomes fragments of light and shadow. The elusive horizon disappears into the presence of your shading hand. You are here now, the place that you stand, with your aches and pains forgotten, and the company of birdsong, cloud shadow, breath. Stand here, remember the moments like dominos that fell with every kilometre to bring you to where you stand before nature, yourself, and the divine intelligence. Mountain slopes, river valleys, birdsong over cathedral spires, the joy-filled company of strangers. You are loved, and you are never alone. Breathe it in. And with a sigh, and click clack of walking cane on the gravel path, let the pilgrimage continue.

We live in a static world, hemmed in by roadways, routines, escalators and fluorescent bulbed shopping aisles. Tarmac, makeup, exhaust pollutant, traffic noise.

Can you breathe? Is there room to believe in anything other than the alarm clock?

There is another way. For thousands of years, our ancestors have walked the paths between civilisation, seeking the outside-in view. From ancient Varanasi with the burning bodies and ash thick waters of the Ganges, to temple topped mountain peaks of Watui Shan in China, humanity has undergone the journey known as pilgrimage to places that remind us of the holy.

Join us for an adventure through time, landscape, and the human heart as we explore this ancient salve for the modern soul.

Whether you walk for adventure, personal challenge, redemption or revolution, one thing is guaranteed. You will awaken to a new horizon each day, and in attaining them at day’s end, discover you were stranger than you thought and beautifully – more than you ever wished to be.

Come and join me on #retreatsinmotion this summer and walk the first five days of the Camino de Santiago and or a walk to Rome. Including Breathwork, hiking, meditation, presence practices, creative writing and circle sharing. DM me for details.
